I'm traveling, in Omaha Nebraska this week.

There was an unfortunate incident earlier this week in which a family was mauled by a pit. They are now banning pits in Omaha.

There was a good article in the paper that looked at both sides, firstly the fact that where pits have been banned, incidents have gone from 30 to 2 per year. He does mention that the second highest bite rate comes from Labs, and questions if we should ban that breed as well?

The article further points out that it's the culture of the handlers, not the dog, that is exploitive, which we all know to be true, and that they will only move on to other breeds like rotties and dobes.

It was god to see reporting that looked at both sides, but sad that this has happened.

Hi,
i live in Grand Island it is about 2 hrs form Omaha.. I read about what happened it was a bad deal..
There was a similar incident her in my town also that was put in the paper. and now they want to ban them form GI. I think "pits" and other bully dog are getting a bad name from the paper and the news . they make up 1% of the dog bread. There are attacks every day from other dogs just "pits" are the ones they remember..

I would like to know what the owner was like and the kind of care was given to the dogs that do these things. they are the ones that make them mean and fight them.

We can talk about this tell we are all blue in the face, we love our dogs and treat our dogs like they where our kids. But to other people that have never been around a loving and genital am staff or pit they will just believe that every am staff pit is a killer.

i hope you have a safe trip and wish you luck

I'm afraid people's fear makes it difficult for them to hear facts and reason. I'd love to see irrisponsible breeders and owners dealt with instead of the dogs.

Drove through GI today, staying in Ravenna! Driving out to see sandhills and Broken bow tomorrow. Best,
Ruta
