I am a first time Amstaff owner...

We are proud to own this beautiful breed of dog, I have also began our own kennel here in the Netherlands..
Showing the girls in the ring has been a great experience & meeting new people with the same passion is a great feeling, also a great learning experience..

I would like to ask how other people got involved with this breed and why!!!

Regards Daniel..

We have 4 boys ages 11,9,7 and 3 and we have to have dogs that can withstand the boys lol...This breed is loyal and loving and I LOVE them tons...

Junior is our second am staff. We got our first dog Jack from Larry about 3-1/2 years ago. My husband was dead set on getting an am staff. He had friends that had them growing up. I was reluctant!! He did a lot of research and finally convinced me!! He found Larry on the internet after doing a lot of research on breeders. We decided to take a trip down to VA from NY to pick him up!! I fell in love with him!!! Jack got sick about a year ago suddenly and unexpectedly, and we had to put him down. Thanks to all of Larry's help and support we decided that we just had to get another amstaff, so we got Junior almost a year ago!!! He is awesome!! Now I am just waiting for Craig to give in so we can get the next puppy!!! LOL! (Keep working on him Larry!!!)
I never thought that I would love this breed as much as I do, but they are awesome dogs!! Both of ours have been great with people (especially kids) and are extremely loyal and obedient!

Well, gosh. I was about 10 when we took a abuse pitbull in that was being fought and that was that. There was a lot of fighting in our city.
So we had a couple that we brought back to life and feel in love with the breed. They have just been so great with the kids and people through the years. My wife never had a dogs growing up so when she meant me she had her dogs.lol She fell in love with them right off. Then we got into some showing. We have meant so many great people from showing and just sharing are dogs with others.

I will be working on it JackD.lol

I accidentally got involved with the breed. One of my husband's friends dumped a couple of pit bulls off at our house and asked if we could look after them for a month or so. 6 months later the dogs were still at our house. We finally found good homes for the dogs, then Billy's uncle called us saying he could no longer keep his blue pit, he was a truck driver and the dog was getting too big to be a truck dog, so we took him off his hands and then found out he was an american staffordshire terrier. So then my research began on amstaffs and I fell in love. Our kennel is named after our first amstaff "Shady"

I'd always wanted a dog, right from when I was 6 or 7. My parents never let me have one as they said that it wouldn't get looked after propably. (which they were more than likely correct)
When I move out of home almost got one, but thought it wouldn't be fair to a dog as a young bloke going out all the time it would have spent a fair bit of time by itself.
When I got married the house we were renting wasn't fully fenced so we waited untill we brought our own house. Then it came to looking for a dog. I guy i worked with had a Staffy Bull x Amstaff. I had never heard of the Amstaff so I started looking online and just over 2 years ago I purchased Siska.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your responces, I loved reading them and hope that others might continue the discussion of First Timer...

I will add my own story...
About 10 years ago I had a friend who owned a Red nose x Pitty & we lived in Cairns, Australia.
It was a beautiful looking female and when she was happy to see you, She would ran up to you a smile at you.
It was the nicest dog i know at the time and feel in love with the breed..

Now i moved to the Netherlands and straight away i wanted my own Red nose or Pitty but they are illegal here Crying or Very sad
That was when i heard of the Am-staff.. We went to shows to see them in real life, I met Frans Diaz of Chasqui Kennel and the rest is history..

Now the Amstaff is my passion and beening about to compete in show with the Girls has been a great experience and i wouldn't trade it for anything...

Regards Daniel..

Yes in Holland the pitty is banded 10 years now but amstaffs are still allowed, But they are registered under the dangerous animals act, Stupid if you ask me....

In Australia the pitty is still legal but they are trying really hard to get the ban against them, because of the amount of attacks still happening..

Not sure about the rule on the amstaff in Australia, cause i never heard of a amstaff until I got to Holland Embarassed

Hi Daniel..

I first got into the breed when I was about 11yrs old.. Found a loose pitbull at school and decided to take it home. The love just got stronger since then. I have had the breed since then and starting showing about 7years ago and just love them to death. My husband will not allow me to own another breed as well. He wants a breed that is loyal, great temperment, good with kids but also strong and amstaff/pitbull just fit that to a 'Tee". I have a 3yr old son and can these dogs take a hit, poor babies. I will be entering the Staffy world also but not for another year.
