Thanks for the quick response. I'd like to meet up when I move there, especially since I don't know anyone in Lisbon lol.

Hi... Not a problem, it will be a pleasure...

to have your Amstaff here, you just need to have insurance, responsability capital minimum 50.000€, chip, and register where you live, every city is divided by zones, you need to go to your zone office and register him after doing insurance.... its really easy i'll help with it......

Just to add one important thing... Since April 4th, with the new BSL, to get an AST into Portugal you have to have a special license from the DGV ( Veterinarian Minister).

Qpasto, please post more info. I will be moving there in less then 2 months now and I have not heard of this. Also, airline prices suck! It's costing me almost a total of $2000 to bring my Amstaff and Rat Terriers!

Hi,

As AnaLee said before, after getting your dog into the country you have to register in the Town-Headquarters and pay a small amount of money, every year.
To get him registed you he has to have (and all dogs) a valid Rabies Vacination, Microchip (ISO number), your criminal-record (you cannot have had any convicton for a agressive action - so, do now hit anyone) and insurance, plus a medical-certificate saying to you have physical ability to handle a dog.
But this is the least, the worse can be getting him into the country.

First is the dog AKC?
If he's not AKC, he will have to be neutered or will have to aplly for registration papers.

Second, to get him into you would have to aplly to a special permission from DGV (Veterinarian Minister). And no one sill knows how that work.

IF you AST, that one on your avatar? If so, can't you get him as a cross breed (Lab*Boxer?)? That possibly the best to pass the custons ...

And yes, airlines suck but that's a pretty high price! Are you flying with whom? TAP ? I use to work with Lufthansa and sending a dog alone as cargo is cheaper than that! So, if you're flying with the dog and in a direct flight, it should be even more cheaper!!
