Spring is fast approaching (thank god!!!!).. and I bought my bf and I, hydration paks for xmas this year and would like to start hiking... as a family. So now I would like to find Orion a hiking pack to maybe carry a couple small bottles of water for himself while hiking some trails.

Can anyone who has done this with their dogs give me some advice.. how much to start with (is 2 water bottles too much?).. what kind of pack to get... websites would be def appreciated since I don't feel like I'm finding much on my own and any other info that I might need to know... I'm very new to this.. but I love the outdoors and would love my first dog to enjoy it with me

Orion is 8 months old now.. and will be a year old in June. Just in time for some nice weather... (I know you should wait till about a year old for any wieght or training.. so I figured I'd throw that fact in there)

Thanks!!!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,
My dog is just over 4 months and I wanted to get her a light backpack to tire her out a little more on our walks. Our neighborhood is rather small and she has lots or energy! I called my vet whom I've been with for many years and he said that it would be best to wait until she is full grown before adding any weight whatsoever. I'm NOT an expert but I tought I'd pass it along...

I totally agree with your vet.. I would wait until at least a year for adding any weight.... Even at a year, it would be very little.. Different lines mature at different times.. IMO. 4 months is way to young IMO... Some just don't tire out at all. LOL You got to love it.lol

Maybe I'll get a K-9 cruiser or take up rollerblading...or not.
