O.K. We adopted our Amstaff mix from a shelter at 6 weeks old. Almost from the day we got her she would go happily into her crate at night and we would get her at 7 the next a.m. She never whined and only had an occasional accident. Now, at almost 14 weeks she wakes us up at 6 a.m. and has already peed in her crate. I know I'll just have to get up and take her out at night but I'm just wondering why she's regressed. Anyone have any ideas?

Could be a lot of things.. We used to not allow Junior any water after 7pm.. Then we always made him go out before bed to empty the tank.. Usually around 11pm..

Try pulling the water dish earlier if you aren't already might help..

Do you let her drink as much water as she wants? or do you already limit water?

When I am training my pups they don't get food or water after like 7:00 at night and then I take them out multipe times before bedtime to make sure that they fully relieve themselves before bed, and also, as soon as I wake up the first thing I do is rush to get the pup out of the crate and take them outside immediately.

I noticed that my puppy regressed at about five months. She seemed trained, then regularly had accidents in her crate, no matter how many times I put her out.
I took her to the vet with a stool sample, and sure enough, she had worms. A couple of prescriptions later, she hasn't had an accident, and is on a regular schedule.

I hung a bell on the back door, and for about a month, I would take her paw, and hit the bell with it, before I put her out. Now, she runs to the door, hits the bell and waits for me. I put her out, and she does her business right away. Sometimes, she rings the bell just because she wants to play outside, and on those times, I stand outside with her until she goes. Sometimes it takes as much as 30 minutes, but I don't let her come back in until she goes. Now she knows, and is a great dog.
It takes a long time, and a lot of repetition.

I love that bell idea. Sometimes I'll be in another room and won't know the dog is standing at the door. I may try that!

I would do the bell, but I know junior loves being outside, so he would be over ringing that bell every five minutes.. Great idea though..
