I see that quite a lot of people here have blue dogs, personally it is a color which I think pretty but that frightens me.

In effect in France many "breeders" produce blue dogs because it is in fashion , they marrying blue on blue.
The dogs exits of these marriages sometimes have of big problem of health such as "Alopécie des robes diluées" (I don't know how to say it in english)

Have you the same problem in your country?

I have seen color dilution alopecia in some blue lines before. I have not had any issues with my Cirkle C bred blues though I do want to cross back into black and brindle with that line to keep the good pigment I have.

This question is always a weird one for me.. I don't see how its any different that someone breeding brindles because they like brindles or red cause the like reds..

I hope all breeders do their research before any breeding! They should know how to keep the colors strong and mitigate health risks..

Is this always the case? Nope not at all, those breeding solely for blue pups, with big heads and asking 3000 dollars.. Well arn't in it for the breed, they are in it for the money..

Excuse me but I think that you cannot say this.....brindles or red are "natural" colours while the blue is the result from a dilution of the black pigment, on the basis of this report, it seems obvious that production of blue includes more risk and requires to turn a very particular attention in the ancestry's pigmentation, and it much more than if you produce brindle or red for example.

It does not mean that the red requires no attention, but it is necessary to be fair and to confess that risks are lesser.

No? Rolling Eyes

I agree they shouldn't breed blue dogs because its fashionable or fetch more money. I also agree with out proper research that it can be a bad, but breeding any dogs with out research is bad...

I don't see a difference in a reputable breeder wanting to correctly breed reds vs wanting to breed blues. If that breeder does the research understands how to keep good pigment and does it properly then why not?

The breeders breeding light blue to light blue are also the breeders not doing any health testing, not caring for the breed and trying to make money.

My opinion - it doesn't matter if you are breeding, red, blues, purples or oranges. The breeder should be doing his/her homework, while most breeders say they don't breed for color, I bet you can't find a reputable breeder that doesn't have some idea of what the off spring will look like or want them to look like. Its not what a good breeder breeds for, but it fits into their plan some how..

Breeding for color is breeding for color that is the bottom line. Reds was HUGE because they were winning HUGE and still are in most case so REDS were being bred for that color..

YOu can breed blues aslong as you tie it back to nice brindle or black.

I have no issue breeding a nice blue to a nice blue with good pigment but the offspring will be bred back to a brindle or black.

You are now seeing reds have bad pigment, so natural color or not. It is easier to lose pigment with a blue breeding. You have to work to keep dark pigment but why are reds losing theirs?

Any color can't get screwed up IMO. I like blues but has nothing in selling dogs at all.. I also like a nice black or a nice brindle. Blue is my favorite. I have all three colors here.
