| Well I must say I bougth those $200.00 happy legs, the stack triners. I have only used them once. I just practice on the floor, with bait and praise. Grooming table works good too. |

There is a system called stax rite and I do actually like it.
But for the most part you need basic obedience first, start out just training your dog to stand, you can do this by having the dog sit, then takeing a treat, putting it in front of your dogs face and then pull the treat away from the dog's face and telling them to stand, they will usually get up from the sit and stand to follow the treat, as soon as they stand lots of praise and give them the treat. Do this over a week or so until they will stand on command without having to lure them with a treat. If for some reason they don't stand and follow the treat then with the back of your hand just apply a light amount of pressure under the tuck in their stomach, and this usually does the trick.
Next step once your dog understands the stand command then introduce they stay command, put your dog at your side and tell the dog to stand, then use your stay command, which mine is "stay" with a hand motion of putting my palm in front of their face, then step in front of your dog and then right back to their side. If they don't move release them immediately and give lots of praise and treats. You should pick a release word if you havn't already done so. You can use release, or all done, or get creative live bravo, anything that your dog can associate with it's okay to move now. Just remember to always use the same release word and every time you tell your dog to stay you have to use that release word before they can move. All right back on track, do the stand stays and build up your time before going back to your dogs side. Eventually you want your dog to stand stay while you walk all the way around your dog.
When your dog understands the stand stay is when I would introduce placeing their feet. Tell your dog to stand then if their feet are out of place gently pick up that foot by the upper part of their leg and place it where it needs to be and say good if they cooperate. The when their feet are correct tell them to stay then release and praise.
After about a month of training like this then start introducing distractions, and maybe even start having someone pet your dog while they are in the stand stay, but don't have someone try and examin your dog to quickly or it could mess up your training. Also when you start introducing someone to come in and examin your dog do it very briefly at first. Just a quick pet on the head and maybe their back, then next time maybe have them do more like go over their legs as well. You also have to train your dog to let someone look at their teeth.
But I am done for now, I hope this has helped you out. |
