Three sounds like a good age.

Why I asked is your boy seems very confident and a little more mellow.

My boy I'm working with is a year and a half, so he still gets impatient at times and bored while he is doing his stays, I think he is a little bit of an ADHD pup. LOL He does good but you can tell he isn't mentally mature yet. On the other hand I don't know if they ever get fully mature in their minds.LOL

Did your boy ever go through a phase like I described? When your boy was 1 1/2 did you still expect alot from him?

To be honest,he started out late with his "real" training, but if your boy is getting bored,I would cut his training time back .
Only train a happy dog,for a young dog 10-15 minutes is just enough, and try to involve a toy too as a reward, would make it more fun for him.
It can be ball, tug, frisbee anything he goes nuts about! Wink

Nico is a very hard headed dog, right now I'm "fixing" his down, cause I don't like it when he looks around when I leave him.
His head has to be on the ground when he's in a down now. Razz

You know I don't even know if bored is the correct word to use, he is 1 1/2 and during his stays you can tell he would just rather be doing something else more fun you know. The staying in one spot is what he finds boring, and in our training class we do five minute downs, they say five because for the CD you only have to do three. Do you think maybe he is still too young to be doing five minute downs??? He knows not to break the down stay, but he looks miserable, especially with all the distractions, the instructors have made loud noises, rolled balls into the dogs front legs and the dogs are not allowed to touch the balls, they have even walked the little fluffy dogs right next to them, this is the part that really gets my boy because he wants to play with those little fluffy dogs so bad. LOL
