Hi everyone!
We purchased our Amstaff this last weekend (he is 8 weeks old), and this is my first large breed dog (I grew up with Yorkies and Shi Ztues). My husband has experience with them, but being I am going to be the one home all the time with him... I am trying to learn as much as I can!
What are some techniques for training Amstaff's that have worked for you? What kind of classes did you enroll them in (if any)? Currently I am working on potty training by giving him a treat after he goes potty. This is the only kind of "treat training" that we will do, as we don't want him to think he deserves a treat every time he sits
Any help or tips would be great! Thanks |

my ABPT is only 3 months old, ive had a great success training him, just always remember walks walks walks, its gets their energy out and makes them less destructive. key word, less.
i also make my boy sit and ask for absolutely everything. he has to sit and be calm before hes allowed to stick his face in the food bowl to eat, he has to sit before he greets someone new, before someone walks in the room, before hes allowed out of his kennel, before he gets his leash put on and off. large breed dogs love discipline. they thrive off of it. dont let him get away with anything, cause you dont want a misbehaved 60lb dog who already has stigmas to it. my first order of business was to stop the biting, yea hes a puppy and he wants to play but dont let anyone tease him with their hands, i dont care who you are, if you play with my dog with your hands you get yelled at, yes even my mother in law. |

When hes 12 weeks old you can enroll him in an obedience class That will help with socializing Get a crate for when you leave him at home....do you have kids? Plan on having kids or have any that visit? |

As a parent something I recommend is getting the pup use to be handled in every way pulling of tail opening his mouth feeling on his face...I'm sure you have already watched the baby investigate the puppy lol But just saying my dogs are perfectly comfortable with my kids crawling all over them and doing whatever to them I think thats how they should be |
