Apparently there is a blip in the december dog fancy that states the us army has banned all pit bulls purebred or mixes from all military base housing. The us marines followed suit. Apparently if there is one already in housing they are grandfathered in until 2012 but only if they have passed a CGC or delta society test. This is not good. If the government can do this on such a large level im afraid it is going to escalate. And I dont get it. Have you ever seen fighting dogs on a military housing base? not likely so they are simply punishing the responsible pit owner. Anyway some of you may have already known this but since I have sold 2 puppies to members of the military from my last litter and they are popular with military, as breeders I wanted you all to be aware

Yes and it is started to leak into the navy. Though as of yet, each commander has the ability to decide for their command. Currently working to get rid of our base BSL.

Actually, just sent a letter to the base commander friday about the pet policy with plans to speak with the commander or the Eruope and African Forces. Trust me, they dont want any more bad press and I am in the works with local media to see if i can get the story spread farther.

The bans only apply if you live on base. So for those like me who reside off base there is no problem.

As a military family, my suggestion to those of you who may sell pups to military members is to make sure you bring up certain topics. Things such as if they are aware there are some bases/countries that do not allow the breed and what they plan to when PCS'ing (or Permanant Change of Station, moving). Our family knows that the UK and Hawaii are off limits for us and we are ok with that. We wont ever have to pick those.

Here is another article that says some and I can post more too.

Yes, the ban is army wide. that means all army bases are affected. The Navy has not passed a rule yet, but it is up to each commander.

When in doubt, ask to see a copy of the pet policy for the base. Each servicemember is allowed access to them.

yeah i figured it wasnt new news to those involved with the military branches but i hadnt heard about it until i saw the article in my clinic this past week. i was attracted to the cute amstaff and then read the article. i was stunned. and since i sold 2 pups to military homes i was sure other breeders dealt with plenty of military homes as well so wanted to make sure the word was well spread.
