When is the best time to start training a puppy? How old should they be before you try to train them?

I would get into a puppy class as soon as you can.. Not just for learning, but more for socialization aspect. Also might give you some ideas how what to think about for training.
It also allows you to find out if you like the training method they show you in class or if you want to try another one.
My wife took junior to two different ones, on they did more treat based training they other they did just praise training.. Both effective, but it good to check them both out and see which one you and your dog reacts to best.
Thanks

I have already started training our 2 month old puppy. We don't go to formal classes but basic training at home. She is super smart and so far can sit (not for too long) stay for a short time and come to the sound of a whistle. She doesn't always do what I ask but I would say 8 out of 10 times. I do it in short 5 minute intervals throughout the day.

My pup is 12 weeks old. I am thinking we need to get him to puppy preschool asap. How far is it ok to walk him at this age? I am thinking 30-45mins should be fine...

Megkel - hows the training going, puppy picking it up well? Have you tried getting into a local class?
Valandaz - I would say to not walk him any further than he feels like walking at this time. If he lays down he's done... LOL |

I recently took my pup ( at 7monts) to obedience school. There was a class held at the local school, and it was through the continuing education courses that the school district offers. It was terriffic, Roland is super smart, and picks up quickly. It is a lot of practice, and not to get frustrated. Good LUck
