| Hey guys, was listening to radio today and the local councils had to make changes to laws they want to bring in with ten breeds. They had said that anyone living in a council estate could not keep these dogs. They are now saying that the dogs owned before july of last year and neutred can be kept. dont know full list of dogs, they did mention rotweilers and bulldog breeds. |

| Sorry, went checking and found more info.This is the dublin city councils law.(our capital city) They have a list of eleven dogs that are banned. English bull terrier, staffordshire bull terrier, american pit bull, rottweiler, german shepard, doberman, rhodesian ridgeback, japanese tosa and bandog. So regardless of how responsible and caring you are of your dog you stand to be penalised because it is easier to punish everyone rather than work at stopping those that are the wrongdoers. Road deaths are hitting the headlines a lot here at the moment, maybe if they banned all cars, or just the red ones then that would seem to solve the problem!!! |

Its very troubling Colin.. How our moronic our governments can be and pass these laws with out doing any research.
The facts are no matter what dog people own, kids, parents, owners and other animals can get hurt by a badly raised fear biting or aggressive dog.. Banning these breeds does nothing to stop bad dog owners..
I am 100000000000000% sure that Smoking kills millions a year.. Why not ban that while they are at it.. or a real good example would be alcohol, I mean if i am driving down the street and some drunk hits me thats just like being attacked by a random untrained dog. But your chances of being hit by a drunk driver are about 10000000% higher than being killed by some untrained dog..

My point is irresponsible dog owners and irresponsible drinkers shouldn't ruin it for all of us.. Same point you made colin.

Sorry, dont understand. I believe they brought in this law to protect themselves because in the event of an attack on council property they could be liable. |

sorry, i don't speak English well. Synonyms: constitutional=lawful, legal, (http://thesaurus.reference.com/) I just want to know if this low of the council, don't broke the constitution of Ireland. The BSL is affecting me directly, because I want to move in the UK for my master degree,but I can't bring my dog with me because he is banned there. Some peoples from K9, UK told me that they fight the low but it's very hard. |

| I would steer well clear of England, they have very strong laws against dogs. They have the power to enter your home and by looking at your dog decide if it is dangerous, they can sieze the dog and have it destroyed. At least in Dublin they have backed down from pressure from people. Last year they tried to introduce a complete ban on those dogs. Now they have allowed people who had thier dogs before last july to keep them under certain conditions. The animal must be micro chipped, they must also be spayed/neutured. When out the dog must be kept on a leash and muzzled. Better than losing your dog!! |
