Recently Delilah (who is now 2) has been turning her nose up at her normal dog food. She has been checked out by the vet and is perfectly healthy, up to date on her shots, no worms, and within a normal weight limit (48 lbs). She has also began to smell awful even after a bath, which my vet said could be due to her diet. She suggested a homemade diet but didn't have too many suggestions where to find a recipe. I really wouldn't mind doing so, especially knowing it would be better for her.
Anyone have a recipe they wouldn't mind sharing or know where I can get a good recipe? Or a dry dog food that could work. We give her Beneful which was the only dry food that seemed to agree with her, but we haven't tried anything in over a year.
Thanks for any help |

We now feed EVO and all our dogs love it!! Even the one who used to turn her nose up to food like you're saying.
When I fed a homemade diet, I got alot of my information from http://www.njboxers.com/faqs.htm ... really simplifies and it helped me out alot.
Good luck!! |

I LOVE Evo! Their coats & bodies look amazing... and just like when we fed raw, their poo dries up and falls apart! I LOVE IT! The kids go out to clean up and there's hardly anything to clean up They love it too
It's more expensive but you feed less so it probably equals out. |

And for whatever reason, pups don't seem to absorb such high quality so our most recent, Stryka, came to us on Royal Canin but I gradually switched her to Innova (by the same company as Evo). Now that she's 7 months, we're gradually switching her to Evo I loved a rotation diet before but I think I'm hooked on this. We'll see. I believe that they all have something to offer. I liked Solid Gold too... did Orijen for awhile. Evo produces the poo we like though |

I'm sure you can find something similar... print off the ingredients and compare to some you have there. |

There are LOTS and LOTS of book and places to read on homemade diets. No kibble can ever compare to doing it yourself IMHO.
Beneful is not a "high quality" kibble, so yes an upgrade may help the situation. If you are willing to go all the way homemade, then you will really be doing a world of good for the dog.
BTW, EVO is not appropriate for puppies the last time I checked - which I will admit was several years ago. I have a friend down the street that is a distributor Renee, so depending on if you are getting a discount or not - she may be able to help you save some $! She goes by Shannon's Dog Food Treats and Toys (she is at most of the same shows as we are, she shows Chinese Cresteds) - her e-mail is petfood@hotmail.com
Anyways - I have some good information in my old newsletters that I used to publish on a raw home diet: https://www.bully-behavior.com/Mutts_Meows_Index.html
My friend Virginia at Bella Rosa Cane Corsos makes a diet with much more cooking involved and she regularly publishes a newsletter as well: http://www.bellarosacanecorsos.com/articles/articleslist.html
There are lots of links online, do a google search and you will be amazed.
Print books are better for me because I like to be able to reference them a lot of highlight things. I like "Give Your Dog a Bone" by Ian Billinghurst and Kymythy Schultze has "Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats: The Ultimate Diet", and "Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs and Cats" is almost all exclusively cooked food with cool recipes and cost breakdowns. I have a ton of books, but the baby is sleeping in the room with the books LOL - I think one is called The Good Food Cookbook for Dogs also. I also subscribe to the Whole Dog Journal - they have breakdowns of cooked vs. raw and also publish a best of the best for kibble and cans each year!
Best of luck! Also, as an aside - if you are happy with your food and your dog's condition then by all means continue - you can add deodorizing herbs like yucca to her meals which may help. Also chopped wheatgrass and/or parsley will help digestion and breath odors. |

| Thanks for all the information. I'm not super comfortable with the thought of a raw diet since we do have a young child and I can just imagine raw food all over my kitchen! I will read more about it though maybe my thoughts are wrong. I will check out the website you suggested thanks a lot! |
