What would be the one thing you would want the general public to know about your Amstaff. If you could only pick one thing to share about the breed?
I think I would talk about DA... As you all probably have heard me say a couple times, I think this is the biggest thing over looked by novice / new owners. I think its the number one reason people have such a bad taste in there mouth when some one says "PITBULL" |

| I think one of the problems it that alot of people don't understand DA and human Ag.. They don't think there is a difference and one time I had explained that to some people , it really changed their minds alot. I was in the vet office the other day and a lady jump over a seat and acted funny but when with the vet and the other workers loved all over our boy and girl , the lady seemed shocked.. |

| I tell people that an Amstaff is the best family dog ever. My dog loves kids of all ages, and will put up with just about anything from them. I never worry about her with people, only with other dogs. |

| How old is your dog that is very protective and nervous around strangers? Definitely needs some socialization. I think too many novice owners and even some older owners think just because they brought up a dog with another dog and they are best friends they don't have a dog that can decide one day to fight with the other one. It can happen at any given time and after the fight they can sometimes go back to being best friends if you are brave enough (me I consider it stupid enough) to put them back together. That is not saying that all dogs will turn on each other I know some people have been successful with running their dogs in packs but most are very experienced Amstaff/Pit Bull owners.......I would explain about the spark that makes a amstaff a amstaff in my opinion! Not an actual dog aggression problem but one where they don't take any nonsense from another dog and while not starting it would definitely finish it |

Shouldn't be nervous around PEOPLE at all.
I am a believer that our temperaments of this breed is going to CRAP.JMO |

If dog shows the sign of being nervous around people who comes into the house... that to me is a sign that the dog would bite one day simply because she is nervous...
How did your dog get into fight in the first place? was she offlead when it happen? if so then the best way is never to let her offlead... if she was on lead... you may need to learn how to prevent it next time.. if i see her putting on gaurd act toward another dog i would yank her lead and tell her to walk on and look away from other dog.
I know it is tiring to look around all the time but i do this all the time around my dog/s because of the rep. having AST or Pitbull is like driving car where you had to be precaution on the road.. |

That is weird.. Usually it is the other way around.. A dog usually feels safer in its home and nervous out in different places.

First off don't be mislead into thinking just because your bitch is 2 and shown no sign of aggression that she can't change. I knew of one bitch that always ran with her mother even after she had a litter of pups. (Mother's name was Blaze daughter's name was Camille) One of Camille's daughters was visiting the breeder was dog sitting for the daughter and they were kept separated. One day Camille out of the clear blue Camille attacked Blaze (her mother) and killed her. Camille would have been at least 4 if not 5 by this time because she was a minimum of 2 when she was bred and her daughter was at least 2 so that gives you a time line.
Second you might want to check around to see if there is a good dog behaviorist in your area to come to your house and help you with your bitch. This is not normal temperament and it sounds like she could be a prime candidate to be a fear biter if put in the wrong situation by mistake. Check them out thoroughly though before you let someone work with your dog so they don't make her worse. |

| ok i understand what you mean C/N... thats why i said always be caution around you and your dog.. But being fear of people inside the house is not good... it sound like she had bad experience inside the house but good outside.. Anyway hope things improve for your dog's fear. |

I agree with fff.. I have had dogs at 3 to 4 years olds turn dog agg and never show a sign before that.. I treat every dog like they at dog Agg no matter if the are or not..
Good luck with your dog and you need to correct it as fast as you can..
Let us know what happens.. |
