Hi I'm Anita, i come from Australia. I recently bought an Amsatff. She is almost 11 weeks old now. Her name is Doc. I bought her at 9 weeks, and she is an amazingly smart pup. She is pure bred and her mum is a pure faun colour and her father is pure white. She cost me $400. Australian dollars and would have been alot more expensive if I wanted papers.
Her litter has 13 pups! and were mostly girl pups. They were brindle and faun coloured. The brindle must have been a throw back.
Doc has a lovely Temperament and hasn't wimpered once since we got her. She chases out cats! so she is going to need some training. I trained her to sit and fetch the day I bought her! she loves a routine (eg, play in the morning at the same time and in the afternoon too!). She loves to play pulling games with a rope....she growls a little and sounds like a squeaky toy when she barks.
She is a fine specimen for sure! I love her heaps.
Cheers Anitaxxx |

Hi & Welcome
FYI It might be a good idea to go ahead and pay to get your papers. You never know when you might need the papers to prove your dog is an amstaff. It would be awful to loose a dog to BSL because you didn't pay extra for the papers. |

| You will need papers. For example, when my dog was 5 years old the government banned pitbulls but if you had papers to prov that your dog is an amstaff , it was OK (just some restriction: leashed, registered at police,.. ). |

thanks for the warm welcome.
k84,
im kinda cant afford the papers, so maybee in the future i can get them. I know the owners of the parent dogs, so they may let me pay off the extra for the papers.
The amstaff isnt banned here in Australia, however..pitbulls are, so its a shady grey area.
The vet told me to desex her and that it would help with minimising agression. Still thinking of doing that, however im not overly concerned with agression at this point...she has a beautiful temperament...
im not going to breed her or do the show thing so it wont be a hassel getting her fixed. |

| Once you fix her there shouldn't be no problem getting papers.. IMO |

ok thats good news. The vet has verifyied she is pure bred and also suggested I fix her. The vet is also the parent dog's vet (small town!).
As for the papers I am wondering because I didnt get her from a kennel or registered breeder...hmmmm
however the owners said I could get papers if i paid more..I will have to look into it further. |

Hi there Anita, another fellow Aussie saw the pics of your pup and she is too cute!
i know its expensive getting papers but it probably is the safest way to go. you are correct in saying Amstaffs arent banned in Australia but with their similarities in looks to pit bulls, who's to say a snitchy neighbour or ignorant council ranger wont mistake her for a pitbull some day? If you have the papers there to prove her breed, you wont have any problems.
And be careful if you arent going to get her desexed - when she comes into season you will have rogue dogs from all over the place trying to get to her so keep her safe inside somewhere!
She is a gorgeous pup - arent they just so fun when they're little!
All the best,
Jen. |
