Just curious, if anyone works their dog..

Hunting, law enforcement, or even taking them to a nursing home..

That has always interested me..... Its great how a simple dog can make a persons day..

I've always wanted to teach my dog to track simple things i.e. wildlife or missing things lol...

Do amstaff have good sense of smell?? like if i lost my daughters or wife in the forest.. would they be able to track them?

Does anybody have any tips or advice on how to teach dogs to track?

I have thought about making cart or buy one for my dog to pull me or my children around the park with reiners (unsure of the word)... Not sure if it is good for her..?

I trained my first APBT to track her kong, lol.

We also trained a 9 month old AmStaff to track. My husband was the handler and I was the person who "got lost". Starting out with small steps and using a lot of praise (and a motivator like a treat or a toy) actually helps a lot. Since Boss was still a baby I dragged my feet to my hiding place to leave a better trail for him and you will need to choose a command to help keep the dog on track. In my experience the dog really loves the time you are spending with them, the excitement of finding someone else to pet them, lol, and all the love and praise they get when they do good!

We train and compete sucessfully in obedience, tracking, weightpulling and human search. I think the breed is lovely to work with !
