| I've recently had my 5 and a half month old puppy tested for allergies. The only thing we found out is she is allergic to Timothy Grass. Apparently it's a type of hay and I have no idea where she is coming in contact with it. Right now my dog is also on an antibiotic for a skin infection. She had pea size bumps on her sides and hind legs. The meds seem to help with the bumps but she continues to break out from allergies at least once a month. I'm starting to come to terms with the fact this is something we're just going to have to live with and just try to make her comfortable as possible during the breakouts. It's very frustrating because we've spent so much time and money and still have no answers. |

Poor pup. I sure hope the vets can tell you something soon. I have poison Ivy now and it S*CKS. I couldn't imagine being itchy all the time.
It still sounds like mange. IMO |

I have heard of this from other AST... they are nasty... if left untreated they become infested and sore.. it does help if you monitor the temp. my dog's sister does have those sometime.. she is always in very warm house and my dog doesn't get them i guess it may be because i always leave my garden door open.. the only allergies signs my dog gets is little red rash on her belly and licking her foot.. but nothing more then that.. her sister gets the rash on her belly and then goes to her legs, chest and lower back with pea size bump. the infestion does smell.. i told the owner not to bath her with shampoo too much since it is not good for dog's skin and the owner listen.. the skin had improve. I feel the natural oil helped the skin condition as well.. when being bath alot the skin gets dry and itchy which could make it worse..
I think it is genetic skin condition among ast.. When I saw her sister's skin condition i tried everything to avoid my dog from getting it.. I find that my dog's belly rash goes away when she have more exercise.. the blood simulation help keep healthy skin...
I also use "beaphar" skin conditioner liquid that i put in her food and give her daily "Rock Sulphur" water that i break sulphur rock up into the size of walnut and put one peice of walnut size sulphur in her drinking bowl and renew the rock every three days... Hope this may help because it had helped improved the other dog's skin condition.
i use them now and again just to keep the skin healthy...
would that be the case? wheat made from hay?? some food have wheat in it... |

| What are you feeding her? I was reading an article(I'll try to find it for you) that said there is something in their food that causes allergies. I feed my pup the B.A.R.F. diet. The article was saying the raw diet is great for them in every way. From allergies to less trips to the vet. She really loves it and her coat and energy level are great. |

Changing food is a good suggestion. If you can't afford the RAW or BARF diets then I am sure you can find a premium dry food for sensitive dogs.
I sometimes wonder if some skin problems don't have something to do with the thyroid (just me thinking out loud)?!
Anyway, you can also go to WalMart and buy some Benadryl (regular or generic). If it is allergy problems it should help. I am surprised your vet didn't tell you to give an antihistamine along with the antibiotic. My assumption is that the antibiotic is just to treat any infection (the bumps).
My APBT broke out in the fall and spring (I lived in the northeast at the time) and as long as I kept her on Benadryl when I knew it was a bad time of the year she did okay. |
