I am putting together a list of am staffs that have done very well in the sport of weight pulling. I am hoping some of the archive nuts here will be able to help me. What I am looking for is information on dogs of the past and present that have either set a record or pulled a outrageous amount of weight. I would like as much info as possible, like the year, how much the dog weighed/how much he/she pulled, owner, what type of surface etc. a Picture would be most helpful as well.

| Winmor-have you read the article on the Tacoma dogs in the 2007 amstaff annual? There is some good info there on the tacoma dogs and weightpulling. |

| Like the others, I don't know of any weight pulling Amstaffs, but I must say, I wish Amstaffs were worked more, like the APBTs are. I think we're WAY too show oriented over here in AKC. Show is not and SHOULD NOT be the only way to evaluate a dog. |

Hi Holly,
I can only name two high percentage wp amstaffs, off the top of my head. One is Ace of Ace Silent's Thunder dreamer (alane gresham). She was pretty well known in the ADBA circuit in the 90's. The other is Stoney, that you are familiar with.
We have had several of our asts earn titles, but nothing high level yet. Our male Max, is showing promise of being a good one, but we are mainly focusing on SchH with him, and doing weightpull with him on the side.
I think I also remember a dog related to dreamer called ThunderStorm that was pretty impressive also. |

You just are not going to find many Stafs that have done much in weight-pulling compared to what the ADBA and UKC dogs have done.
There have been a few here and there -- I had a couple -- but they were very average pullers and certainly were no record setters (other than one of them being the first Staf to be seen in IWPA pulling, which was about the same time you saw the first Pit Bulls there -- back in the mid-80s).
I agree with Howard -- I saw Thunder Dreamer -- who was a maybe 40 pound Ruffian bitch who was the most incredible Staf puller I've seen.
These ADBA/UKC people put incredible training and conditioning regimens on their dogs. I don't know of any Staf people that do that and it's a necessity these days if you have any hope of beginning to be competitive with them.

It's the APBTs that dominate competitive weight pulling in this country, along with American Bulldogs in the larger weight classes and Patterdales in the lower weight classes.
Stafs are seen very seldom in competitive weight pulling in the States.
Is competitive weight-pulling even allowed in Europe?

I'm sure it's allowed but I never seen one. Agility is more popular here.

Agility is very popular here as well and appeals to a much broader spectrum of people with many different breeds. Competitive weight-pulling is extremely popular among a relatively small group of people with fewer breeds, and they are very serious about it.
Oh, and you will see more really good, highly titled, Am Stafs in agility!
Personally, I like to see Am Stafs in agility more than weight-pulling. I think it's more suited for the kind of dog they are (that goes for Pit Bulls too) and they enjoy it more and it does show you more about the dog.

Well since I am one of the ADBA/UKC er's I do remember "Dreamer" very flashy white and pied bitch with an ear crop and Storm was a dark bindle with natural ears. I forgot all about them actually LOL s Elaine and Andy didnt like people in the ADBA to know they were am staffs LOL because they showed her ADBA also and its a "no no" to put up a staff 
(even though she was like a GR CH 1 I believe when she retired) The Greshems were very instrumental in their training and those dogs showed it |

Tryarr Diamondback Redbolt should be on top of the weight pulling list. He set some serious records in his day.
I know that Richard Hughes of Tejas Farm N Kennel does weightpull with his ASTs and so does Noel Palmer of Fangtasm Kennel. |
