I dislike most people and you can't cure stupid or ignorance!! But if their open minded enough I will talk about the virtues of these breeds, but it can be a little hard while mine are trying to lick them to death!!

Some of these questions are pretty old - but I guess they are still relevent enough to comment on?
I think the best thing you can do, is to actually have one of these dogs handy to show people. Most people have received their education on the pit bull type dogs direct from their media. And since they are only human, they don't expect our newspapers to lie to them - why would they not think they're dangerous dogs when it's the only thing media ever shows them? But I found most people tend to be genuinely surprised they aren't the evil monsters they've been led to belive they are when they meet them in person under the right conditions. Once many years ago when I was studying, we had to preper a show and tell type thing which we made in front of the class about any random thing that we happened to be interested in. I don't remember what the point of this was since it was not related to what we were studying, but anyway I used the oppotunity to bring in an American Pit Bull Terrier into the class room: and people loved him and it really got people talking and they could see right there his behavior was just like that of any other dog - I remember that dog actually took a crap on the floor, in the empty class room next to us while he waited! Anyway, rambling now, but if you don't have any dog on hand to show people, like I do not living abroad, then the next best thing you can do is be ready and prepered with a good argument. You have to know what to say - you have to know your stuff - which is why we read forums like this. You don't have to be that clever either, because the chances are you are already smarter than any anti-pit bull opponent anyway! |
