Yep...or more depending on the quality and intended use (Show etc)...Especially from the right breeder that does all the health testing etc.
If you are looking for a pet quality dog I wouldn't want to pay more than that. Send me a private message and I will tell you what breeder to avoid. Kevin

I payed 1500 for my amstaff that I will keep as a pet. Does that mean that I over payed?

1000 is about the average these days for a pet. Then with shipping cost and ear crop, add another 500 or so. You can find breeders selling for less, but there is usually no health or temperament testing done on the parents. Of course there are exceptions to that. But 1,000 is the norm.

My $100, uncropped ear, healthy bouncing boy seems a bargain then.

In my area (Great Lakes Area), you can buy a quality amstaff for about 800-1000. Less than that for pet quality(LP & S/N). I, personally would not pay over $1200 for an amstaff pup, here in the states. The two best amstaffs I purchased were way under those amounts. The two worst amstaffs I had, I paid the most for. I would pay more for an older dog that was completely health tested. However, with a 8 week old pup you are really gambling with your money anyway.

Great answer and ditto on the sentiment that the dogs that I have paid the most for = the least as far as quality and long-term goals were concerned. I will agree with the price range as well. Although in my area, I just heard a report of AmStaff pups posted for $4K - ouch. Not sure if that will be the purchase price, but that is the asking price. |

IMO 1k is too much for a companion dog, especially in this economy.
Look around and find a breeder that will help you find the best fit for you and your pocketbook. Kelley and Shawn Jackson

a grand is worth it to me. id rather pay a little extra and get a dog that will grow to look like a correctly bred amstaff. but it doesnt matter... a dog is like a kid, you love it even if its not the cutest thing on the block.
and a friend of mine has a female from cirkle c already and she looks exactly how i want mine to look so im gonna stick with cirkle c. thaks glen. |

Standard price for an AST puppy here in Sweden is 1200€ ($1800).
$1000 does not seem like much in comparison. Very cheap actually. |

Seems to be about the same here, around $1000 for a pet up to $2500 for a good dog.

Around the San Francisco area, you can still do it the old way--getting your puppy from some people whose pet had a litter-- for $100-250.
But of course-- You don't know what the parents were like, or how the they and the puppies have been kept, and you probably can trust a breeder more in that aspect... You don't know what the father dog was for sure, and can only guess from the way the puppy looks... Most of the ads I've seen say that the money is to make sure people aren't using them to fight but maybe that's marketing.... I got lucky and got my guy from a shelter that is "pit bull" friendly...and got all his shots, chipped, two vet visits, and training classes while he was there (4 weeks) for $100.
